Sharepoint Error Encountered Export Issue List

B

Barry

From PWA, I can create a list of issues for my project. However, when I
select to "Export To Spreadsheet" the issues list, I encounter a sharepoint
error. The message states that Excel cannot connect to sharepoint list.
Prior to this message I encounter a warning telling me that the file contains
queries to external data sources.

What do I need to install so that this export link will work? Other people
in our organization can export the issues to a spreadsheet from their
computers.

Barry,

This looks like a security setting within your installation of Excel. I'd look there first.

I can't imagine that there's anything on the server side that would know about your installation of Excel. It's simply gonna try to open it and send the data. It's up to Excel to be willing and able to accept the incoming data stream.

This notion is supported by your comment about others being able to do the same thing perfectly fine.

I set the macro security to Low and it still fails. Any other thoughts or
what security option needs to be set in Excel?

Barry,

Take a look at the the Programs tab in IE's Internet Options settings on your computer (and others if you can). My IE version has a button to "Manage Add-ons...". If you've got the same click on that and see if you've got a control called "Microsoft Office List 11.0" listed and enabled. The filename for this is STSLIST.DLL. Windows Sharepoint Services used to be called Sharepoint Team Services (STS), so it's possible that this is either not installed or not functioning properly. This may be the glue you need to stick these two things together.

Also, I assume you're using Office 2003? If not the office integration won't work.

Hi Earl,

Microsoft Office List 11.0 is not installed. By the way, I had to update to
SR Pack 2 in order to find "Manage Add-ons.." button.

Do you know where I can find STSLIST.DLL to download? I am only on SR Pack
1 in office 2003.

Thanks,
Barry

Barry,

I believe the file STSLIST.DLL is installed when office is installed. You probably need to do a proper installation rather than just getting your hands on the file itself. Try this:

1) Go to the Control Panel of your machine, open Add/Remove Programs and find Microsoft Office Professional 2003 in the list of installed programs.

2) Click the Change button then select the option to Add/Remove Features and click Next.

3) Near the bottom of the list of applications is a checkbox to use the "advanced customization". Click the checkbox and click Next.

3) Now find Office Tools in the list and expand the node(s) until you can see an item called Windows Sharepoint Services Support.

4) Make sure all the components of that node are set to "Run from my computer".

5) Click the Update button and cross your fingers.

Let me know if this works or not. Good luck!

Hi Earl,

I had followed your steps but to no avail. Do you have any other suggestions?
