Sharepoint List As Main Datasource

Hi,

I know that I can have a sharepoint list a a secondary datasource. The
problem is I can not filter a repeating table based on secondary datasource
(am I correct?)

How can I have a SharePoint List as Main Datasource?

Thank you,
Alan

Hi Alan,

Yes - you can filter a Repeating Table based on a secondary data source.
When you click the filter button and choose to "Insert a Field or Group"
you have the option of choosing a field or group from any of your data
sources.

I hope this helps!

Hi Scott,

But there is no filter button, when you have a secondary datasource based on
sharepoint list!

[Repeating table Properties] -> [Display Tab]==> No Fiter Data button !!!

Thank you,
Alan

Hi Alan,

Maybe I am missing something here in my sample: is your Repeating Table
also based on a Sharepoint secondary data source?

Here is the situation:

Fact 1) Main Data Source is XML structure. I don't use it and there is no
field in it.
Fact 2) Second Data Source is a Sharepoint list. I have a repeating table
based on that.

Problem 1) I cannot filter secondary datasource which is a SharePoint List

Problem 2) I prefer to have the SharePoint list as my Main Data Source.

Thank you for help,
Alan

Hi Alan,

Thank you for the clarification.

As you know, if you attempt to create an InfoPath solution from a "data
connection" the only options you have are Database and Web Service so there
is no "direct" method to have you main data source as a Sharepoint list.

The sample I had created was not basing the Repeating Table on the
Sharepoint list so you are correct - filtering is not available in that
scenario.

Theoretically, it may be possible to create a web service that
retrieves/updates data from Sharepoint; however, I have never delved into
that option. It may be worth posting to the Sharepoint Newsgroup to see if
there is sample code to create a web service for Sharepoint - if there is,
then you should be able to create an InfoPath solution from that web
service.

I hope this helps!
