Sharepoint POrtal Server 2003

I have been running a SPS for a few years now. I upgraded to 2003 from 2001
and currently have a 2003 server running with a 2001 backward compatible
library. We are looking to consolidate out Project use to a server. I had
looked into this once before, and I am aware that Project only needs WSS not
SPS. We are looking into the option/need to run Project on the same server
as SPS. I was told this is not a good idea, as the load could be too much.
My Questions are these.
1. Is it okay to run WSS on another server while you have SPS serving out
sites on another server?
2. Also, can you set project up on one server running WSS and integrate it
with the existing SPS sites?

Any help would be great.

1. is a clear yes. One of the standard scenarios for WSS (and one that
Microsoft Internal IT have said that they are using for their worldwide
implementation of "SharePoint") is to have a group of different WSS servers
whose content is consolidated in a SPS 003 server.

In the Microsoft case they have something like 5 or 6 regional SPS servers
consolidating local WSS servers in all (?) their local subsidiaries. [Public
knowledge as this was presented at TechEd 2004 and there is a web cast
available too]

2. Would probably depend on the level of integration you are looking for.
Certainly you can have SPS search the content stored in WSS just as it can
for the above scenario.

But the Project Server guys will probably have more.
