SharePoint Portal server

after installing the Office 2003 on my desktop I can not
access a web part on the SPPS 2001. the web page that I
am tryoihg to access has a link to a data base on a
seperate servrer. Portal is used as a ffront end to
retrieve customer information with drop down baxes.
