SharePoint Site and Validation of Windows User Logons

I'm adding user to a SharePoint Site that is NOT PWA generated, but I have
added it to the Blue Menu Bar, per my client wishes.

When I add resources to the Site, some have LAST NAME FIRST NAME, some show
FIRST NAME LAST NAME, some show FIRST NAME .(DOT) LAST NAME and some only
will show their Windows User Logon, no matter what I type in the Display Name
field.

Is this a known issue with SharePoint Sites or is it something misconfigured
for some of my users in Outlook ?
