Hi,
I am having trouble sharing an Access 2000 database (using Access 2000)
under Windows XP home edition. When a user compacts and repairs the database,
for example, it appears that the new copy of the database does not include
permissions for other users to access it, so I get the error described in
article 208768. Other users can see the file, but get a "file not found"
error when they try to open it. This happens even if the file is in "Shared
documents". I particularly need to share it with Guest, because that is the
user profile that is used for sharing files with other computers. I can fix
the problem by restarting in safe mode and manually assigning permissions,
but that fix is tedious and only lasts until the next compact and repair. The
problem does not occur with Word documents saved to the same folder.
Does anyone know how I can fix this? Is there a way to get around it with
VBA code? Maybe I need to program my own "compact on close", and reassign
permissions to all users. Or do I have to upgrade to a later version of
Access? We are on a tight budget.
Thanks!
