Sharing BCM Database

Peter D

I am interested in moving my sales staff to Business Contact Manager. I see
v2 finally supports shared databases. All the literature seems to suggest
you can only use peer-to-peer sharing.

Is it possible to place the database file on a server in a domain-based
environment and have everyone access it from there?

Thanks.

You can share it in the domain based envoirment , the trick is that the
machine which has the DB needs to be online all the time, it will still
be peer to peer sharing (1 db and as many clients) but that machine
with db needs to be on all the time.

Thanks for the info. Does that machine need to be running BCM, or can I just
place the db file on one of my file servers?

You can also share it with a workgroup LAN. In the abscence of domain
services you need to add the users/passwords to NT on the machine
hosting the db.

You need to run BCM to setup the db, but you do not need to have
Outlook/BCM running all the time, just the SQL service that allows
shared users to connect to the database. You can logout of the machine,
just leave it running.
