Sharing Calendar between 2 Profiles

J

Joe McGuire

Is it possible to share calendars in OL 2003 between two profiles? I have
one profile for personal stuff and a second for work. I used to keep all my
appointments in the work calendar when I had the work stuff on a remote
machine (my old cell Phone/PDA synced with that one). I could easily access
that stuff through a link while OL was running on my own machine. But now I
have all on one machine with 2 profiles. I can access the work calendar
only when running the work profile. It would be more convenient if I could
access it from either profile. Is this possible? Is it really a good idea?
Would this convenience create other problems? Thanks!

I should have added that Outlook 2003 is running in the stand-alone mode, no
Exchange.

what type of email account is the work profile? Assuming you are using a PST
you would place it in a location both profiles can access and open it in the
other profile using file, open, outlook data file.

thanks! The e-mail in the work profile is POP3. Samewith the e-mail in the
personal profile. I am using PST files. How would I set up the necessary
(?) pst file to hold the calendar? Is a calendar-only pst file possible?
Would it open with Outlook in either profile? Or would I have to open it
manually? Would I have a blank (unused) calendar in each profile in
addition to the "shared" one? And wold the "shared" calendar update when I
close Outlook?

You can copy or export the calendar to a pst with just the work calendar or
open the work pst in the personal profile - the contents of the work profile
doesn't need to be hidden from yourself and the mail & contacts will be
separate from your personal mail so I would do it this way on the personal
profile. Open it using file, open, outlook data file (or file, data file
management) and it will be part of your profile until you close it. This
makes it easier as you won't need to keep exporting the calendar to keep the
shared one updated and if you need to, you can add appointments to it when
its open in the personal profile.

Is there a way to remove the calendar from either profile since a sepearate
PST file will be used for both profiles? The calendar now running in each
profile is not going to be used.

I am having a bizarre problem. My archive on theremote computer was
dividedinto sections due to issues about the size of files that I could
transfer. One archive is "2008." ON the remote PC I can see all the 2008
e-mial etc. However, after transferring it the transferred file has some
800 mb of data (but not exactly the same as the source file--shouldn't it be
exact??) The the strange problem is that when I go right-click on a folder
on my desktop and on Open Outlook data File there is no data in there! No
e-mail, no sent files, etc. When I check the size (right-click on the
folder I just "opened", and click Properties, is zero! Yet in Win Explorer
the size is shown as 800+mb! What the $%^&* am I doing wrong?? How can a
file have two different sizes: 0 and 800+ MB??
