Sharing data between two spreadsheets

I have several tabs within a spreadsheet. I want to be able to share data (several columns and rows of data) from the one tab spreadsheet to another tab spreadsheet.

I did find where you type in =, then a function, then open ( , the hold the shift key and go to the tab where the data is .......etc.

My question is what is the function that I would use. I first need to copy the data from the first spreadsheet to the second and then I need them to always stay in sync.

For what you describe there's no "function" needed. This requires only a
basic formula link.

If you have content in A1 on Sheet 1, for example & you want it to display
in cell D15 on Sheet 3, cell D15 need only contain =Sheet1!A1, then copy the
formula over as many columns & down as many rows as necessary. The content
on Sheet3 will update when the content on Sheet 1 changes.

You can type the formula as above or simply select cell D15 on Sheet 3, type
the =, then click the tab for Sheet 1, select A1 & press return.

Another option to accomplish the same goal is to select the range of cells
on Sheet 1 then go to cell D15 on Sheet 3 & use Edit> Paste Special then
click the Paste Link button in lower left corner of the dialog box.
