Sharing Excel file with Windows 2000 users

I have an Excel file on a Mac (OS X 10.3). All the windows users can
open and access the file. If a windows user has the file open, the
other windows users can open the file as read-only. However, if a Mac
user has the file open, the windows users cannot open the file at all.
They get a message saying the file is being used.

I would like the windows users to be able to open the file as
read-only when a Mac user has the file open. The Excel file has
read-write permissions set to it.

How can I do this?

- Window 2000 with Office 2000

- Mac OS 10.3 with Office X

Hi Billy,

Unfortunately, you can't. MacOS and Windows don't talk to each other well
enough to handle that kind of transaction.

However, you can use Tools>Share Workbook and enable workbook sharing. Then
both Mac and Windows users can use the same workbook at the same time. It's
a very cool feature and that does work with both Mac and Windows users
working on the same workbook at the same time.
