Sharing Microsoft Projects

T

Topio

My Company has around 30 microsoft Project 2000 Licenses

We are working with six sigma and many more people need to VIEW the project
files on a continuos basis,
we're looking for an easy way to deliver the project information to the users
We were looking at Microsoft Project server, but it seems that it is only
for sharing info for users who have full Ms Project Licenses,
So instead of having 30 users with full licenses and 80 users with view only
capabilities
We need to have 120 FULL LICENSES!

We're looking at something like the project viewer from
http://www.steelray.com/

My question is
How do I easily and legally Share project files within the organization?

You are asking a lot of disconnected questions.

Project Server does NOT require all users to have full Project license.
Only those who use Project to define the projects need Project Pro.
The other users have CAL's for the server/web programs.

Implementing Project Server is complex and could be a costly solution to
your problem. It's a terrific product. But ensure you understand it
and plan a proper project to implement it. It's a people/organisational
issue, not a technology issue, to successfully implement it. Lots of
material available on Microsoft's project web site.

Re sharing Project information, I truly believe that it's important for
project leaders to issue "information/knowledge" about projects rather
than just give access to mpp files. there are lots of ways to do this.
PDF, HTML, etc. It's a cop-out to just have people look at mpp files.
Most people, frankly, don't have a clue how to do that.

In any event, see http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm#Project Viewer
about the some of the options.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Hi,

If your users only need to VIEW the information, try saving your plan as an
HTML and placing in a public folder (email it).

Hope this helps.
