Sharing office documents

I need to share a document between 5 people. I need all 5
people to be able to make changes to the document. Is there
an application that will help me do that? Right now I put
the documents in a shared folder, but only one person at a
time can make comments/modifications, all the others are
read only. I need something better. In the past I have used
a CVS-type setup, but that's too complex. Ideally I would
like the server where the shared folder is located to do
all the work. Does sharepoint do that?

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

SharePoint is exactly the application you need if you are looking to do what
you propose and use a Microsoft solution.

Thank you for your answer Milly. I had a quick look at
SharePoint, and I'll look into it some more this week-end.
I forgot to mention that some people in the group are using
Office 2003, but some are using Office 2000. Would the
Office 2000 users still be able to share using sharepoint?
And lastly, does sharepoint require me to have a Windows
Server 2003 set-up?

Thanks,

Laurent
