Sharing with Access 2003

I have a split database (front end and back end) built in
Access 2002. It has been shared among several Access
2002 users for months with no conflicts. We recently
purchased a workstation with Access 2003 and when he
tries to open the database front end he has no sharing
problems with most users. However, we have one user that
when she has the database front-end open it tells him he
cannot open it because the other user has it open.
Nobody else has trouble opening the front-end when she
has it open. We all open the database via a shortcut to
the front-end on a shared network drive.

Any ideas about why this is happening?

Considering you are sharing the database incorrectly could be the major
reason.
Recommended setup for sharing an Access database:
Backend contains only the master tables and resides on a network server; not
someone's workstation.
Front-end contains the linked tables, queries forms, reports etc. and
resides on each users local machine.

If you open a database that contains everything, even if it is on a network,
you are not sharing the database correctly and are open to permanent
corruption to the point of permanent loss. If this scares you, it should.
Read up on the proper 'care and feeding' of an Access database for a

Hey Thanks! Your admonishment reminded me what I had
done wrong. I had forgotten to copy the front end to the
user workstations for these last 2 workstations and had
their shortcuts pointing to the same frontend on the
server (the one I use as the master which I modify).
That was causing the problem.
