Shift Work

Dave

There is another problem. When I have a task that
requires 80 hours of work, and I assign 10 people from
the day shift, I get each person doing 8 hrs of work.

But if I assign 4 guys from the day shift and 3 guys from
the swing shift and 3 guys from the swing shift, I get un
equal hours of work for them to do.

Why?

Thanks,
Dave

How have you entered the fact that the task requires 80 hours of work to do?
Did you put it in the duration field or the work field? If the former, note
that work required and duration are NOT the same thing. Try this
procedure - enter the task showing 1 day duration, split the screen to view
the task form in the bottom window and assign all your resources with 8
hours of work each in one operation - list all of the people and their 8
hours work, then hit the "ok" button - I think you'll find you'll get what
you expected. Assuming your three shifts are 8-5, 3-12, 11-8 and you've
assigned 4 day shifts, 3 swing shifts, and 3 graveyards, you'll find the
task begins at 8 am the first day, ends at 8am the next day, and shows "3
days" or "24 hours" as the duration (seems wierd but 3 shifts is 3 working
days, even though they all occur in the same 24 hour period), and 80 hours
total work. Hope this helps...
