Shifting in Firefox and Netscape

I designed my site around IE since I don't use the other browsers but decided
to check and see how they would be viewed in other browsers. For the most
part they are OK but the layering seems to be of a bit as there is a slight
shift on some pages and then one has a considerable amount. What can be done
to correct this as I have several pages that contain layering and other
audio/visual effects?

Thanks!

Sorry, the Flash-Only naviation prevents me, and many others, from looking
at your site.

Also, the trip in the way-back machine to the days of "best viewed in blah,
blah, blah...." was a turn off.

How is Flash preventing you from viewing it??? What's wrong with recommending
settings to view a site in?

In IE there is no affected pages. Netscape and Firefox is where you will see
the shifting.

I've found that generally it's because of FrontPage's tendency to put the
border style:collapse in the table tag attribute.

How is Flash preventing you from viewing it???
I don't have Flash installed. I, like many others, have tired of the barrage
of annoying Flash advertisements and the usually gratuitous,
looky-what-I-can-do, non-enhancing use of Flash on web pages.
What's wrong with recommending settings to view a site in?
It's a waste of time and arguably amateurish.

How likely is it that someone, who uses software that doesn't meet your
requirements, will go out, download browsers and plugins, install them and,
after all that, then return to your site?

You should provide alternatives so anyone can browse your site.

Geez, Bob.
With all of the different platforms, apps and all in the net world, you sure
are coming across
as pretty picky and elitist!

I guess you'll have to educate me on how the use of the word "anyone" in the
sentence above infers elitism. Who would be excluded from the anyone club?

In fact, I pretty much don't understand your comment at all.

With "all of the different platforms, apps and all in the net world", I
would think it elitist to specify browser X with the width and height set to
Y, and, oh yeah, you will also need program Z in order to properly view /
navigate this site.

Let me rephrase it.
How do you like accessing only half of the www?

B

Bob Lehmann

How do you like accessing only half of the www?
Just fine, thanks. Maybe after I've worked my way through the first 4
billion web pages on the Internet, I can hit up the half that is useless.

Or, do you consider the half that is unaccessable to millions of users to
have some value? You really don't have a clue, do you?

PS - PLONK.

Wow...I came here to get suggestions and answers and I've seen more arguing
among the so called "experts". I guess I'll just stick with what I've got and
let the folks on Firefox and Netscape fend for themselves.

It appears you only heard arguing from one person?

The problem you have is that you can answer a question from someone by
saying that
because they don't use the same type apps as you that they don't need it or
are using the wrong thing.
I guess the fact that you would deem the part of the net that you can't see
as "useless"
says a lot of your ego, closed mindedness, or stupidity, whichever comes
first. Tell me, how is it that you have moved beyond a Commodore?

B

Bob Lehmann

Poor, poor Scruff. You just don't get it, do you?

I *choose* not to be perturbed by invasive technologies, such as Flash.

On the other hand, there are several, dare I say I millions, who have the
default software installed on their boxes, and have either no desire, or
ability to keep up with the latest & greatest. It is a poor developer (that
would be you, Scruff) who does not understand this, and in an attempt to be
bleeding edge they exclude those people by not providing altenatives.

I've seen many businesses who have have Flash only sites. And, considering
the type of business they are, the Flash was inappropriate to begin with,
and I have no idea why they don't want *everyone's* business.

Now, why don't you head back to SlashDot where your ignorant ramblings are
more the norm?
