Short cut key Ctrl Y (repeat last motion) in Publisher won't work

J

Jazzy

The help menu tells me that I can use the Ctrl 7 to repeat the last action I
made. However I have not been able to do so. Please help. I can use all
other shortcut keys. This is making me crazy -- I can do my work in half the
time with the Ctrl 7. It tells me I can also use F4 but this doesn't work
either-a moot point since I use the other that speeds my work considerably.
HELP!

Do you mean CTRL+Y? Since you're typing a 7 in this post, I wonder if you're
on some sort of a modified keyboard (laptop?) where the 7 shares the same
key as the Y.

J

Jazzy

Yes i do mean Ctrl+Y. Repeat a command. I use the U.S. Keyboard and not a
modified one nor do I have a laptop, darn it! :) Can you help knowing this
info? I sure hope so. THANKS!

I goofed - The command is Ctrl+Y -- Repeat the last command such a dumb,
dumb typo on my part. Sorry.
Hi,
I didn't know any other way to contact you to answer your question so I
e-mailed. As you can see I figured out the answer to the next sentence.
DUH!!! I'm new at this so if you could tell me another way to get to you in
the "Discussion Group" section, I'd appreciate it.

I have used this command for such a long time in Word (years) that I'm not
sure where I got it - probably via "HELP"

In publisher you can find it typing shortcut or even Ctrl+Y in the help
menu. It will bring up the menu for keyboard shortcuts for Microsoft
Publisher where you select, Show All. It brings up the entire list.

I sure hope you can help!

I guess I'm not making myself clear darn it! SORRY! Ctrl+Y or F4 allows you
to "REDO" your last action. This works in Word but NOT in Pulisher (I have
2003 version). How can I correct this. The help menu has the Ctrl+Y or F4
listed in Help under KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS FOR MICROSOFT PUBLISHER but it
doesn't work. All other shortcuts do but not this one.

Is there any place I can correct this problem? HELP!

Even tho it's tempting to compare Word and Publisher, you can't. They share
a lot of commands but not all of them. Perhaps if you created a macro in
Publisher you could do whatever you wanted to do but unless you know a
little something about VB, you'll be in the same boat I'm in - macro-less.

JoAnn,

Thank-you! I find it curious that Ctrl+Y is listed in the help menu in the
section Shortcut keys for Microsoft Publisher (version 2003). Because of
this fact everything became quite frustrating to say the least -- I swear
it's there!! You'd think if they have already written a word program with so
many great things they could have easily put it in publisher too!!! What
were they thinking. :-( BUMMER!

I'll be with you in the "macro-less" dept. Guess I'm in good company, huh?
I can say "in good company" because you have helped me so much and I thank
you again!

I honestly don't remember if I've ever Ctrl+Y'd anything in Pub before. I've
just tried a few of the more common tasks but you can't redo any of them.
There must be *something* that can be redo'd (or is that redood) but I don't
know what.

You can highlight a section of text, hold control and drag. This copies the
highlighted text. The ctrl+Y and ctrl+Z are the same as undo and redo. Publisher
simply is not Word.

I think what's confusing Jazzy (and me to a degree) is that the command is
listed as a Redo in the Help file and is in the Edit dropdown menu. But I
didn't see anything that would all you to use that specific command in Pub.
