Short File Name [Please Respond, nobody looked at this before]

I just completed a new XP install on one of my machines
and installed Office 2000. If I look through my file
structure and open a file that has a Long File Name,
when it opens in word, it places the short file name at
the top, and if I save or resave it, it renames the file
to the short file name.

Very frustrating, please let me know if there is anything
I can do. I have multiple machines with this same
configuration and none of them are having this issue.

Sorry I actually found a reply from Beth that said I
needed to turn off the compatibility on winword.exe.
Does anyone know how to do that? I appreciate your reply
Beth and anyone else who would like to give some advice.

According to Beth:

It's a Windows option. If you view the Properties for an executable in
Windows XP there is another tab for Compatibility.
