Short footnotes cross multiple pages

B

Bill Baeck

Hi,

I'm working on a thesis, and have lots of footnotes. If I
insert a footnote into the text on page 5, I'd expect all
three lines of the short footnote to appear at the bottom
of page 5.

Instead, the first line of the footnote may appear at the
bottom of page 6, and the next two lines appear at the
bottom of page 7, for instance.

I'm using Word 2004 on OS X 10.3.5.

Thanks for any help you can offer,

Bill

You can format a footnote to "keep lines together" by selecting it, clicking
Format | Paragraph, and checking "keep lines together" on the Line and Page
Breaks tab. You can make this same change to the Footnote Text style
(Format | Style) if you want *none* of your footnotes to break (if you have
long footnotes, might prefer not to do that).

This article discusses some things you can do to control how Word places
footnotes.

(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

Good luck with the thesis.
