SHORTCUT BAR

When i upgraded from win98 to win xp the setting in my
office shortcut bar did not transfer over. I then went to
try to put them in manually and xp does not seem to
recognize those items from 98 as being on the desktop
even though they do appear on the desktop.

any ideas?

Try reinstalling Office. Operating system "upgrades" tend to be fairly
"messy" when it comes to transferring settings across. Knowledgeable
techs will save off the data and then do a clean install of the "new"
operating system rather than keep chasing down all the little hiccups
from an "upgrade".

You're not in any danger of losing data if you simply reinstall Office. All you
lose are your custom settings and those are easy to restablish. That said, you
should ALWAYS backup essential files regularly whether you think you need it or
not.
