Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Is there a Save As... shortcut in Word? PowerPoint has shift + command + s for Save As... Can this shortcut be added to Word?

In Word the F12 key is already provided for Save As... although you may
have to steal it back from OS X. I can't remember if the OS stole that one
in its more recent incarnations. It still works here in Tiger but I may have
stolen it back & just don't recall.

Command+Shift+S is assigned to the Style command by default. It shifts the
focus to the Styles list on the Formatting Toolbar. AFAIK that stroke can be
reassigned if you wish to do so or you can assign another stroke to it if
you prefer. The specific name of the command is FileSaveAs.

Thanks, CyberTaz. In Snow Leopard the F12 key has a speaker symbol for increasing volume. I didn't want to change an obvious function, so I assigned Save As... to F13. I really appreciate the speedy answer.

Not that there's anything wrong with your solution, but just for general
info...

Do you mean the marking on the actual key on your keyboard? If so, the F12
key by itself doesn't adjust the volume ‹ you need to use a modifier key
along with it. Which modifier key depends on what keyboard you have, but
that's determined by the keyboard design. On my MacBook Pro keyboard, for
example, volume is adjusted using F4 (decrease) & F5 (increase), but I need
to hold the fn key for them to do so.

The OS X default assignment for F12 by itself is to toggle the OS X
Dashboard. [I'm back on my MBP running Snow Leopard so I was able to confirm
the assignment.] That can be disabled or changed in System Preferences>
Expose & Spaces> Expose, which will enable Word to reclaim it for Save As
automatically.
