The underlines letters are the letters used in conjuction
with the Alt button. Press the Alt button and certain
letters on the Menu bar become underlined. If you press
that key along with the Alt button, that drop down menu
opens. Then while pressing the Alt key, choose the next
command by using it's underlined letter. It's just much
easier using a mouse.

I don't understand how to use Shortcuts as indicated in drop-down menus.
I understand the use of function keys and CTRL +
combinations but when in Powerpoint for example -the drop
down menu for View shows me that Slide Sorter can be
opened with the d underline shortcut.
Is the underline key the lower symbol next to 0 on the keyboard?
Am I supposed to press Alt key at the same time?
I tried using the keys mentioned above and the Slide Show drop-down menu opened.
I can't find this type of shortcut key described in the Help file in Office.

Also while I'm here can I ask how does Word decide which
document s to display. If I choose Open from the menu I
can open a history file which seems to only select
certain documents but sometimes not ones I,ve worked on
recently.
