shorten list input

I have created a list containing the words: project, road,
sewer, building, etc. Is there any way I can have the
user just input p, r, s, b, etc and have it fill in the
full word?

I have created a data validation list but it is pretty
lengthy so I wanted the word to automatically complete
after typing in the first letter
