Should changes to "Customize Current View" stick?

Can anyone explain how Customize Current View is supposed to work?

If I I'm in email, and I customize the view...

a. should it apply to ALL email folders (inbox, sent, etc.)

b. can it be used in such a way where ALL inboxes share the same view (no
matter which email account I'm checking) and ALL sent mail folders share the
same view no matter which email account I'm checking?

c. is the view change only for THAT session and then it resets itself or
should it stay customized for good?

(...the few times I used customize view it seems to reset itself/not work
properly or across the board how I want it...)

A. No, not necessarily. It all depends on if the view on the folder is
'one-offed'. See http://outlook-tips.net/howto/grouping.htm for the method
to remove the one-off views.

B. Possibly. Reset the views using the instructions at the url listed above.
If you are using IMAP, it uses different views by default and its harder to
apply changes - in my experience, views often reverted to the default.

C. In most cases it will stick between sessions. What type of account?

Sorry it took me so long to get back to this post - thanks for your response.

a. I removed the one-off views as per the instructions you sent
b. OK - seems IMAP causes all kinds of issues/weird things that can't be
easily worked around
c. All my email accounts use IMAP

I have a view question on the tasks - I'm thinking I should ask that under a
different post?

A. No, not necessarily. It all depends on if the view on the folder is

Thanks, I will.

So now that I reset all the views - what is the best possible way to go
about customizing the views like I want?

Say that I want all sent emails to have the same fields, etc., across all
email accounts.

Would I pick DEFINE views or CUSTOMIZE views?
And which view would I define? IMAP messages?
Or should I find a view that most closely resembles what I would want and
then define that view?

And just so I understand...are there views that apply to emails as well as
tasks, or calendars, so that if I change it for one it will affect all the
other ones?

I find a standard view close to what I want, then use Define Views to make a
copy of that view, then modify the copy to appear as I which. When I save it,
I specify that it can apply to all folders. It is then added to the View
drop-down and I choose it in each folder.

An alternative it to modify the default mail view. For IMAP accounts, that's
the "IMAP Messages" view. Start Outlook with /cleanviews, then modify that
view and it will automatically apply to all folders that use that view as the
default.

Thanks Brian - I'll probably adjust the IMAP view then.

Are there any views that apply across things like emails, tasks, etc., or
does each thing has its own view?
