Show All Subtasks Greyed Out

Hi,

I'm looking at the Gantt Chart Entry Table. For some reason I'm not
able to expand or collapse tasks. The 'Show' drop down on the tool
bar has all entries greyed out. Worked OK before. Latest change was
to add an Outline Code column and define some outline codes - though
haven't done any more with this yet.

Can anyone help me get back to collapsable tasks?

Thanks!

Hello,

Have you turned off the display of summary tasks? Try Tools > Options,
view tab. Enable (check) the option for show summary tasks.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Have you turned off the display of summary tasks?

No, this is still enabled.

I've found that if I switch to a 'Task Sheet' then I can show
different outline tasks again. The problem seems to be with the Gantt
Chart only.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Hello,

Thanks for the additional details. Has the Gantt chart view been
customized? You mentioned the Entry table was not showing
information -- if you apply another table to the Gantt chart view (Cost
table, work table) does the Show button work? You mentioned that you
customized the outline codes and after that all seemed to go wrong. If
you remove the custom outline code field from the Entry table does that
correct it?

What release of MS Project (including service pack information) are you
running?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

As far as I can tell I've deleted all custome outline codes, removed
the Outline Code1 column, and deleted the Code Mask and Lookup Table
associated with the Custom Outline Codes.

If I apply a different table to the Gantt Chart view, the options to
show all tasks etc stay greyed out, so it is something specific to the
Gantt Chart. I don't believe I have customised it in any way.

I'm running MSP2002 SP1.

Thanks for your help.

Finally found the answer in an old post with the subject "can't indent/
outdent or show/hide subtasks: (Aug 24, 2004).

The trick is to Sort by ID. Once I did this, the Project > Outline
menu came back to life.

Thanks for your persistence with this problem.
