show path in visio header or footer

How do I get the path to show in the footer of a visio document? I have the
option for the filename and/ or the extension - but not the path as in Word.
Surely there is a code I can type in - but I have been unable to find it in
the help.

Headers and Footers were added to fix a specific problem of printing a
drawing over multiple physical pages. So your options with H&Fs is limited.
The Visio way of adding H&F type information to a Visio drawing is to use a
background page.

You can place any information in any area of a background page and attach it
to a foreground page. Use Insert Field to add information to a text block on
the background page. If the field is page related, like page name or page
number, Visio will display the information based on the foreground page.

If you are talking about the ability to show the file name and path (as you
do in Word) - I used a text box at the bottom of the page and inserted the
fileds Directory & Filename (both under Document info).

I then set up a template page that I simply copy/pasted to every new page I
set up (actually I have now set up a Visio template for our companies
business processes)

I couldn't find a way of putting the file path in the header or footer.

Visio was created based on the engineering drawing model where information
that would appear on a printed page as headers and footers, appears in a
title block.

You should change your Visio template so that the information appears on a
background page. Once you attach the background page to a foreground page,
any time you create a new page, it is based on the current page, so the new
page will have the background page. You can also add a lot of other things
to the background page.
