was created, which I saved.
1. Should I now use the new template now?
2. Does Word 2003 creates new styles automatically?
3. Were the referenced styles repaired? What was wrong with them in the
first place?
I have had a lot of problems with numbered lists in Word 2000 and it's
continuing in Word 2003.

Numbering is a nightmare that we hope is being completely revamped for the
next version of Word. But meanwhile, see the following links for an
explanation and some guidance on trying to tame the problem.

My answers below. YMMV.

No - my experience is that Word's "repairs" to numbering aren't to be

Not unless you have AutoFormat As You Type selections to define styles based
on your formatting. However, if you have the "Keep track of formatting"
Edit Option checked then the styles and formatting task bar will show
entries such as "Heading 2 + Italic" (style plus direct formatting). These
can get turned into new styles if you "Modify" them.
3. Were the referenced styles repaired? What was wrong with them in the

Why would you disbelieve what Word tells you ? <g>
What was wrong with them was probably numbering - especially if you brought
troublesome lists from Word 2000.
I have had a lot of problems with numbered lists in Word 2000 and it's
continuing in Word 2003.

Word 2002 introduced yet another rework of the numbering problems, so I
would recommend you remake your styles fresh in Word 2003 and don't try to
bring anything forward. For advice on what seems to be the best ways of
setting numbering up you might want to read these:
