I have gone to mail and news preferences and selected "show attached

A new security feature in Entourage 2004 blocks the display of pictures (and
other linked mail content) hosted on remote sites. Images can be loaded for
individual messages by clicking on the ŒDownload Pictures¹ link in the
yellow message status bar. This was a huge feature request from users that
found the all embracing ŒAll Pictures¹ or ŒNo Pictures¹ too limiting.

There is a setting in the security section of the preferences to
automatically download pictures from recipients who are in your address
book. That should suffice for most users.

Sorry but I am struggling with this one.

I don't have the status bar that you refer to and I am alos unable to see
the security section in preferences. I am using Microsoft Entourage X for Mac
- is this the "best"version? or should I be using a different version?

Thanks for your help

OK, you're using Entourage vX - you never said, so I had to guess.

First line in my post says "A new security feature in Entourage 2004...", so
no, you won't have this feature.

So, in order to dig a little deeper, can you say whether this happens to ALL
graphic content in email; plain text as well as HTML, attachments as well as
'inline' images?

Tx for your response. All graphics are not appearing...

I had a quick look at the Entourage versions - I presume from my quick
investigation that 2004 is better than X. Is there any way to upgrade? (It
looks like 2004 would also solve my calendar printing problem that I posted
in a recent post)

You should be able to find Office 2004 reasonably priced now and you'll also
be ready for the new time change. Entourage X is not going to be upgraded
for the new change.

See this article "Is your Mac ready for Daylight Savings Time?"

There are links to some geeky solutions listed.

I am having the same problem in Entourage 2004 for emails that include
the pictures (there are no pictures to download.) The images are
available in the attachments list, but refuse to show in the email
even if I download pictures. The only way to view them is to save to
disk and open in another program. Then the context of the email is
lost.

How do I get the inline pictures to show up in the email?

I'd be interested to know the file types of these picture attachments. Some
Windows users send pictures in BMP format, which Entourage cannot display
inline.

If you drag the attachment to the desktop you should not loose the context
of the email.

All mine are JPEG (.jpg). Sometimes I get .gif or .png, but
never .bmp. Regardless, QuickTime can display BMP files.

Dragging the picture to the desktop absolutely loses the context. The
context is maintained only if the picture is displyed within the text
associated with it. However in Entourage 2004, I only get placeholders
and no idea which of the many attached pictures belongs in which
placeholder.

Since you weren't the original poster to this thread, did you check to see
if you had the preference to display pictures selected?

If that doesn't solve your problem, can you send me a copy of a problem
email? You can forward it as an attachment.
