Side-by-Side Pages

For some reason, Word 2003 has just started displaying pages side-by-side. The
problem is NOT the reading mode. Here is a post by another person who had
exactly the same problem, but no one posted a solution:

Whenever I open/start a document in my Word 2003 it appears in a view that is
side-by-side. I have looked into this problem and it is not a print preview
issue, it is not a view issue (i am using print view), it is not some kind of
reading layout problem. Odd pages appear on the left, even on the right and it
is frustrating to scroll through them and have it move left and right. As a
weird side-note, if i open any kind of side panel, such as dictionary/thesaurus
or help panel and the like, it reverts back to single page viewing, but as soon
as I close this panel it returns to two page (yes I realize that i could just
leave a panel open at all time, but i want a solution not a temporary fix). Any
help is greatly appreciated.

The short and easy answer is that you need to go to View | Zoom and select
some Zoom ratio other than Two Pages (starting, perhaps, with Whole Page or
Page Width or Text Width). Sadly, this may not help if you want 100%;
apparently on some wide screens Word helpfully decides that if two pages
will fit at a given Zoom ratio you must surely want to see two pages. From
responses here, I gather that changing the Zoom by as little as 1% can kick
it back into line.

I've had the opposite problem in Print Preview--where, when I select Two
Pages, I get only one; if I decrease the zoom, I get four. <sigh>

Thanks, Suzanne. That's pretty surprising, actually.
