Side by Side view in Word 2008?

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

Word 2007 (for PC) has a great feature that allows you to view two documents side-by-side... you can choose to scroll simultaneously, or not...

Is there a similar feature in Office 2008 for Mac?

Unfortunately, no, Mac Word doesn't have that feature. Use Help> Send
Feedback to explain why you would find it useful & we may get it added in
the future. In the meantime...

The only existing option is to use Tools> Macros> WindowArrangeAll which
positions one above the other rather than side by side. There may be an
AppleScript solution but I don't remember seeing one posted. Keep checking
back just in case I overlooked it & someone else posts it for you.

Just to emphasize--there's no simultaneous scroll on the Mac.

The script here will automatically resize and re-arrange ALL open
windows vertically, instead of the default horizontally--if you only
have two windows open, they will be side by side.

The question above seems to refer to side by side view of pages from two DIFFERENT documents. My question is about viewing 2 side-by-side pages (or even 4 pages) of the SAME document within the main window. This was easily done with Office 04, but seems to have disappeared from 08. I hope you will show me that it is still possible in 08.

Hello Ian -

There's no difference in 2008

Use the Zoom control on the Standard toolbar for 2 pages when in Print
Layout View. If you want more, go to View> Zoom, select Many Pages, then
click the icon to choose as many as 8x14 (although 2004 did allow 8x15).

Additionally, in Print Preview you can click the Multiple Pages button and
select up to 8x19 pages (again, 2004 allowed a bit more).

If you've not found the familiar zoom control it may be due to the toolbar
being collapsed. If that's the case click the oval button at the right end
of the document window to disclose the bar.

and each window can show a different area of the document, page 5, 10,
18, 37, whatever.

View | Zoom | Many Pages will show you multiple consecutive pages in a
single window.

Not sure which you wanted.

Regarding my previous posting, I went back to Word 04 and could not find the setting I described above. Perhaps I am thinking of the Print Preview view, in which one can see multiple pages or just 2 or just 1.

With today's large monitors, it certainly would be nice to use the extra real estate by being able to post 2 subsequent pages side by side in Page View, with both being fully editable.

The same thing would be useful in Normal view.

What are the chances?

Hi Ian:

No chance at all in Normal view: Normal view is "unpaginated" (which is how
Word gets the tremendous boost in speed in Normal view).

In any other view, in Word 2008, it's View>Zoom>Multiple pages...

There is also a trick you can use to make all pages fully editable in Print
Preview:

When Print Preview opens, the "Magnifier" is highlighted. If you click once
to de-select the Magnifier, Print Preview is fully editable.

WARNING: This is EXTREMELY demanding on the computer. Save before you do
this, because unless you have a supercomputer under the desk, Word will soon
run out of power or memory and crash

You can display multiple pages in Page Layout View without the nasty
power-guzzling side-effects. Page Layout View is very nearly as accurate
The main difference is that Print Preview shows you the facing pages on
the correct "sides".

Both in Office and Excel 2004/2008 there if you will notice is a
vertical slider and horizontal slider you can split a page in half up
and down or sideways.
so you can view two separate sections of a page or sheet either
direction and each section is control by arrows up and down or left and
right.

I don't know if this could be of help or not but I'll throw it out there
anyway.
