Signature - Extra Characters Appearing

I use Outlook 2000 SP-3 (9.0.0.6627). When I create a new Signature, extra
characters "" appear above the first line of the signature. I have tried
creating a new signature in directly in the Outlook signature Tool. I have
tried using Word in the Advanced Edit option. I have tried typing the
signature in Notepad and pasting it in. I have left the signature blank
after executing the New pushbutton for a signature and leaving it "Untitled".
The characters seem to be somehow embedded in the signature tool.

I have to delete them from each time I create a New Email message.

Any ideas on the cause and/or solution to this.

I have in the past at least three times in this newsgroup tried to solve
that with someone who experienced this same situation. All three stopped
responding to my questions after a while, so the problem is known, but
never got solved.

Question: are you ready to answer some questions, or are you also going
to give up after a few questions?
