Signature Issue -- Placeholder/Red X Displays Instead of Graphic F

Am using Outlook 2003, am trying to insert graphic file into signature using
Tools/Options/Mail Format. However -- when I open a new mail and the
signature displays, the text displays but the graphic (a .jpg file but I
tried .bmp, .gif as well) displays as a placeholder with a Red X. FYI ...
I've seen this question asked but have no idea if I'm using Outlook or Word
as the mail editor. If it's impt to your answer, pls let me know how to know
or how to change! Many thanks ... I'd really like this to work and am fit to
be tied with how ...
