Can you use fields in an Access 2000 DB table to calculate the value of
other fields in the table? Or do I have to use a query to do this?

You mean, define fields to be the result of a calculation involving
other fields? No, you have to use a query -- or a calculated control on
a form -- to do this.

A Query.

Access is a relational database, not a spreadsheet.
