Silverlight

Hey guys,

I was wondering, if you played with both Adobe Flash and Microsoft's
Silverlight. Personally, I think that Flash just has more leading
technology to play around with. How would you compare both the
products?

At this point, yes, Flash has the advantage. But Silverlight is a brand-new
technology, and the architecture of it is promising, especially with regards
to its potential for 3-dimensional graphics, and the XAML format. XAML has
tremendous potential, as it is an application markup language that can is
platform-independent, and can enable an application to be run on a desktop
or in a browser. This, combined with the emerging capabilities of the
Windows Vista operating system opens up a future realm of nearly endless
possibilities. Which one will end up on top in the long run is anybody's
guess, but I've never been disappointed when I bet on Microsoft.

I'm agreeing 100% with Kevin. When it comes to web technologies, Microsoft has a track
record of first coming out with something full-featured, and then optimizing the living
hell out of it.

On my 2GHz desktop, the only thing that slows it down the browser is a sloppy Flash
control, and this includes some major websites and portals such as Yahoo!.

According to Consumer Reports, 22% of all online users have either a dialup connection
or a shared internet connection that equates to a dialup speed. And that figure doesn't
include European and former Soviet nations that only have dialup as an option. Flash can
be fat and sloppy for those slow connections. SilverLight promises to be more highly
optimized and more friendly to the bandwidth-disadvantaged.

I've never been disappointed when I bet on Microsoft, either!
