Similar to a Vlookup nested function

I have a list that comes in on a monthly basis. I'm trying to do a
Vlookup function, but there is a problem with it; the list contains
repeating headings.

Example:

Bob...
Tom...
Steve...
JANUARY TOTAL

Greg...
Bob...
Tom...
Sarah...
FEBRUARY TOTAL

For the above example, sometimes I'd like to look at Bob's total for
January and other times I'd like to look at Bob's total for February.
The only other problem is that Bob is not always the same number of
lines above the month's total. I'd like to stay away from VBA. Your
help is much appericated
