I've been working on a "simple minded" e-commerce store that lets you buy
and then download a file. Since this is a demo site and there is no easy
way to setup these products unless I have live products to sell.... I have
or will create some modest articles from my existing knowledge (how to
become an OTR truck driver, PC Maintenance, Upgrading a laptop, book
reviews).
I am poking around with a free "1-2-3 PayPal Website Payments....". FP addin
that I connected to via Jim Colligans' multiple websites.
What I want to do is let them pay for the (upto 5 different files/articles)
and then have the files downloaded to the user. I am using paypal because
they charge a percentage rather than a flat monthly charge.
Assuming I can come up with a way to offer only the files that were bought,
How do I code JavaScript to start an "automagic" download and to hide the
actual URL? Since none this is high value its not something I will not cry
a lot over if the security fails. But if I want to sell such a store design
to a proprietor, the file downloads need to be reasonably secure.
I am not wedded to the "e-commerce" software I am using. But I want a
product that will allow me to create a small e-commerce website which can
sell both downloads and a modest inventory/catalog of products(crafts?).
Have I mentioned I am price sensitive? The $30-90/Month (Jim Colligan)
solutions don't cut it. Neither does a $500/one time license
(JustAdCommerce).
Once I get this working I will consider going to something more
sophisticated like "Zencart." I may have to anyway, to solve this problem
If someone has already solved the issue in a free/low cost, easy to setup
manner, please point me at it.
Thanks,
Tom
