Simple Formula to calculate subtotals in cells

I can't think this morning. I just need a formula to
calculate subtotals on text values (how many/which cells
contain the same text value) and get a total on number of
times that value appears (example: Denver office, Atlanta
office, Los Angeles office, etc.) Do I want to use a
Count If formula? I think that's what I need. Thanks.
