Simple solution for many problems

For a very long time I have been having problems with MS
Office 2000 (Small Business) working properly on my
Windows XP desktop. Particularly getting "Help" files to
open without locking up, and installing updates after
downloading them.

A couple of weeks ago I read some of the "readme" files
on the original installation CD's. Buried very deep in
one I found a recommendation from Microsoft that it is
important that virus programs be disabled before
installing the Office products. I disabled my McAfee
Viruscan program and then did the "repair" thing on both
Disk 1 and 2. It may just be a fluke but everything has
been working ever since.

Maybe this is common knowledge about disabling virus
programs but I never heard it before, on any of these
boards or on Microsoft's download website.

Just thought I would pass this along for others who might
be as in the dark as I was. Good luck & hope it helps
some.
