Simple Text Folder Ballooned to 11MB!

Hi:

I'm a brand new user of OneNote. Looks like a great program. I have a laptop
and a desktop and I like to be able to transfer files back and forth via a
USB pen drive. Well, today I created my first folder. It contains a single
page and about 250 words of text. There are no pictures.... When I went to
transfer it to my USB drive, this one file was 11MB in size! At that rate, my
poor 256MB USB drive will hold about 20 pages. I tried doing the file
optimization and it went down to 3MB. I just don't get it. My pre-loaded
"Helpful Hints" folder which is full of pictures...is less than 500K! I tried
doing a "Save As" and the file just won't shrink. Is it normal for a simple
page with text on it to take up so much space? If so, I better buy a 20GB USB
drive just to save 200 pages of data! Lookng forward to some clarification.
Dave.

try removing the page and making a new one, copying the text of course so
you don't lose your work. Most sections are not that size, and should not be
that size... my total notebook size, though i have alot of audio and video
in it, is 99mb and I'm sure there are people with alot more that are smaller
in size. But in the end you should be able to keep the 256mb drive and be
ok.

OK. I copied the text and pasted it into a new page and then deleted the
original page. I then ran the file optimization. The file size doubled from
2.5MB to 5MB!!!! Argh. Any other ideas?

Just leave it alone, so maybe one is going to be big.

Something that I read in the newsgroup earlier is that the deleted pages
data is stored in those files... you may want to look at or change your
editing settings in the option menu.

I'm just passing through, looking for anything interesting, and saw your
post. I've been using ON since the beginning, on both tablet and desktop
machines -- and, no, the sizes you talk about are not normal in my
experience. I maintain three businesses in ON and have never seen anything
like that.

Dave,

If you don't mind, send me the file at chrispr(at)microsoft.com. I'll take a
look. It does seem suspicious if there really is just that little amount of
text present.

Another experiment to run is to just type the same 250 words (more or less)
in a new blank section and see how big that is.
