Simple Way to Modify Date Taken Property for Time?

K

Karri

I'm a fanatic about organizing my photos and enjoy watching my photos as a
slide show (especially in Media Center). Often we travel with groups of
people and we share photos. Almost always someone has their camera date/time
setting incorrect. On my recent trip, my sister and I ended up with a
collection of 400 photos but the time was off on several as she had only set
the date but not the time on her camera. Then, when sorting by "date taken"
we end up with the photos out of order.

Is there a way to manually update the time portion of the date/time
propoerty? Note I'm not a developer so a VB script may be a bit out of my
league.

I know I could manually re-name every photo and sort by name but this is
terribly grueling. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Karri

I don't see the connection with Office.
What operating system are you using?

Look for a "touch" utility - that can be used to modify the data/time
associated with files.

There are many programs that can do what you want. Most are photo
organizers or editors. I use Photoshop, but that is likely overkill for
you.

You might want to look around. Many allow sorting or finding photos
based on many factors. For example I can find photos of my grandson Chase
with a single click, I and find those of him and his mother with just two
clicks. I can then search for those also involving a cat in the photo. and
only those taken during August of last year.

I might also suggest that you pick one day a year and re-edit your
photos. That is take a second look at them. Maybe it is time to eliminate
a few, maybe a lot. Keeping too many photos can actually degrade the value
of the collection even with good indexing. If you like burn them onto a CD
and save them that way. Make a best of the best collection as well so you
can show or find only the really important ones (many organizers allow
ratings of photos so you can show only your five start photos or maybe the
three start or better photos.

In any case Microsoft Office and Windows does offer some tools to do
this, they are really not the best tools for what you want.

Thanks everyone for your input. My limitation is I use Windows Media Center
to playback the photos so need to modify the properties that Windows reads
hence I'm not sure 3rd party photo editor software would help as I assume
these would be used for searching, sorting and playback (not Windows Media
Center).

I posted in this forum as I found similar photo related questions under this
category. I think probably because these photos are reviewed and edited in
Office Picture Manager.

I reverted to renaming them last night. Ugh. It was worth asking.
