Just downloaded a bunch of security updates and whatnot, and surprise, I have
to furnish the original CDs or it won't update. I'm a remote user on a laptop
our IT guy set up.
a) When office update pokes around looking at my machine, surely I'm sending
a serial number or something that tells you I'm not using pirated software.
Good God.
b) Your update process is about "direct revenue protection" instead of
"indirect revenue protection via satisfied customers and an update process
that doesn't require monkeying around for old CDs."
c) Sending CDs to remote employees is a waste of my IT guy's time...
d) And the best part...there was an option to choose update files that
specicially said the files would be bigger...but I wouldn't have to cough up
the original CDs.
