Simply cannot set standard browser for One Note.

Hi,

I'm testing OneNote 2007 on XP Pro (SR2).

My problem:
Most of my programs open Internet links in Firefox, Word and OneNote don't
(Outlook, f.ex., does).

I've tried:
a) Setting, resetting, etc. various browsers as standard browsers: No go.
b) Deinstalling and reinstalling Firefox or any browser (I even de- and
reinstalled IE 7 ... which made OneNOte open links in an older IE version)
.... No go!
c) Going via system settings to switch to a different configuration using FF
as standard browser ... No go.
d) Tried changing link properties via file manager, but all of them point to
FF ... only the .lnk one doesn't and I don't seem to be able to set anything
there.

Apparently, OneNote and a few MS-only products have locked down on IE and I
simply cannot find any setting in the registry (which is a setting probably
not OneNote related) to fix this problem.

My PC is virus and malware free (latest removal tools etc. have been run).

I'm stumped.

I love OneNote but because of this limitation, it becomes completely
unusable for me.

Does anyone have an idea what I can try? I've been through forums, Microsoft
knowledge base articles and whatnot (for an entire day), but ... you guessed
it ... no go.

Thanks for your input.

Hi again,

I now spent an entire day in the knowledge base, in two forums with IT
cracks and whatnot, and it tuirns out there are several people who have this
problem.

In short, even when FF is set as a standard browser (in the program itself
or via program access in system setup) and even if all http protocols point
towards FF, Word and OneNote will ONLY open a link in IE.

I've talked to people who have had this problem for several months trying to
come up with a solution short of throwing out their XP system, but there
doesn't seem to be an answer anywhere.

There must be two/three well-hidden registry settings to control this
behaviour, but they are not to be found anywhere. If I search for OneNote
registry entries I'm basically swamped with hundreds of them; ditto for Word.

Isn't there anyone anywhere on this Microsoft site that has an answer to
this (simple) problem?

Again

a) Broiwsers were installed and deinstalled
b) all permutations of "set as standard browser" with two browsers were tried
c) program access has been set via the "user defined" access settings in
sytem setup (German: Systemsteuerung")
d) files, file endings and protocolls all point towwards FF.

So, what now?

Unfortunately do not have the answer for you but can say OneNote does launch
FF v2005 for me and I did not do anything special other than install FF
after OneNote so at least there is hope. Best of luck.
