We have a Excel spreadsheet that has items for our lunch menu. The
file is placed on a shared network drive every morning. When we want
to order our lunch we open the .XLS, write in our name next to the
item we want, save and close. Of course, several of us invariably end
up trying to open it at the same time. At that point Excel notifies
us of who has it open, and we click Notify. We wait a bit and are
eventually notified when it's free, then we can up and modify it.
It's a pain to always have to wait for someone else to finish with the
file. Is there a better way for us to do this? It has to be done
through Excel, as that's what the catering restaurant gives us in the
morning, but is there some other way for multiple users to access the
same file on a network drive?
