Since installing the 12.2.1 update I can not open .doc documents Ireceive in Email

I am not happy.
MS "fixed" a non problem for me by blocking the opening of .doc files I
receive in Emails from trusted sources.

I have attempted to use their workaround but have not been successful in
getting it to work.

I have Snow Leopard 10.6.1, and Office for Mac v 12.2.1and am running it on
a MBP

I tried to access MS support but they want me to pay $45.00 to get to talk
with a tech to fix something they have screwed up!

Do any of you have a easy way to resolve this issue besides paying the $45
to MS?

Thanks
Dunc
