"Site does not exist" error when publishing.

Viken Karaguesian

Hello all,

Recently, I've been gettting a "A website does not exist at [name of
my site]. Would you like to create one?" error when publishing my site.

I've had my site up for a long time and have only been recently getting
these errors. However, it is an intermittent error. Often times if I
publish at a later time or date I can publish succesfully.

Although I'm somewhat convinced that it's a server-side problem (a very
busy server, maybe?), I wonder of there's anything that I may be doing
(or need to be doing) on my side that can make these errors go away.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Have your host run a server health check of the FP SE

I assume you're using FP, so sign-on to your server's control panel for your
site and re-install your FrontPage extensions. Maybe you're using a newer
version of FP and the server has old extensions?

I assume you're using FP, so sign-on to your server's control panel for your
site and re-install your FrontPage extensions.

I had just done that when I read your message. I'm using FP2003 nad
have been for some time now.

I removed and reinstalled the FP extensions. Now, the problem is worse.
After getting the "Site does not exist....Create one?" error, I choose
"yes" and now I get this error:

"There is no site named "/".

Of course, after I removed the extensions, my hit counter got reset to
zero. Also, the _private folders, etc must have gotten reset.

I *can* access the web folder from Windows Explorer, and I *can* (and
am, at this moment) just copy and paste the files over to the web
folder.

So, as a test, I deleted all the files from the web server and tried to
re-publish. But I get the same errors. I called my ISP (Comcast), which
provides me with the free webspace and they basically said "we don't
care". Comcast diesn't support their "personal web pages" beyond
checking to see of your username/password is correct. So, I'm basically
on my own with this one.

Arghhhhh!

Why did you remove the extensions?! My instructions said to INSTALL OR
RE-INSTALL YOUR EXTENSIONS not remove them! I'm sorry you mis-understood.
Some hosts can help you restore your web space. Let me know if you need more
help.

Dear Viken,

Also, make sure your index file is named correctly. Some index files must
have the extension .html and some .htm. Check this with your host.
