Site promotion

I have almost finished my Publisher website but have a couple of questions.

First, do I have to add keywords to each individual page? If so, is there a
limit on the number of words I can add. It would seem there is as I am
eventually not allowed to type any more in the relevant box!

Second, I am hosting my site with lycos. It has automatic search engine
registration. So far I cannot find my site via any search engine. I realise
this may not be instant. However, are there any other steps I should be
taking to ensure I appear in search engine results?

Any help or advice would be most gratefully received.

If you are using version 2003 the entry for keywords is under Tools, web
options. You have to open that on each page and enter relevant keywords for
the content on that page. Search engines generally have a limit on how much
is in keywords, otherwise it is considered abuse and the search engine will
drop you. Publisher does cut you off for your own good. It can take a couple
of months for a site to get indexed, typically the first will be google.
Google looks at the page title of a page so you must have a good title - read
my article - http://www.davidbartosik.com/2004/11/web-site-advice.htm - in
Pub 2003 you set the page title under Tools, Web options. Visit google every
few days and search on your domain name. If it returns a result with your
home page then google has indexed you.
