Sked publishing - Prj Server 03 Gantt charting capabilities?

All,

Does Server 03 include any capability for generating Gantt charts in
gif format in response to a browser request?

We currently employ a process for publishing program management
information including schedules to the web that employs Project to
generate imagemapped Gantt charts to provide drilldown from summaries
to detail schedules and from detail schedules to milestone detail
pages. This is a batch process that runs daily, and we are looking for
a way to move to a dynamic page capability. In addition to Gantts, the
pages integrate a great deal of ancillary information drawn from Oracle
and SQL Server databases, so it seems unlikely that a process based on
Project Server would be practical for our needs.

One of our sysadmins has suggested that Server 03's expanded
capabilities might help in this regard - I am posting here to see if
anybody might be able to shed some light.

Thanks
Dave

Based on what you've shared, I'd say that this is entirely possible with
Project Server with some customization.

Gary,

Could you outline conceptually how this might work? Suppose a user
clicks a URL for a schedule page - how would the corresponding Gantt
and html page be generated, and how would the imagemap be built? We are
doing this now in batch mode, which is simple in concept but complex in
implementation. I'm still struggling with how it could be done
dynamically.

Thanks
Dave

Dave:

Project Web Access displays Gantt Charts dynamically. I don't know what
technology combinations Microsoft uses to do this, but it works. You can
generate many of the same project views you see in the Project Client on the
web using this tool. You might try microsoft.public.project.developer to ask
this question. Why reinvent the wheel?
