Skip page numbers for an external document

M

Michael Kipper

Hi,

I am inserting a lengthy external document into a report I'm printing with
MS word. I have page numbering throughout, and a comprehensive table of
contents. I don't want to insert tons of blank pages, though, to take the
place of the external doc, though.
I cannot insert these documents into word; they are not computerized.

Is there a way to do something to skip the number of pages in the external
doc?
Like do: 101,102,103,120,121,122,...

Thanks for your help,

Michael

Insert a Section Break in the document at the point where the external
document will be inserted and click on the Format Page Numbers button on the
Headers and Footers toolbar and set the page numbering in the new section to
start at page 120, rather than to continue from the previous section.

I've done this before; my question is if I can set the new section's
starting page number as an offset from the previous one.
That is, if I still make modifications to the original document, can I have
all the page numbers be modified accordingly?
Something like "Starting Page Number = Previous Section + 120"

Thanks again,

Michael

Place a bookmark with the name Section1lastpage at the end of the first
section and in the header, footer of the second section, use the following
field construction to get the page numbers

{ = { PAGEREF Section1lastpage } + 120 }

where 120 is the number of inserted pages. Use Ctrl+F9 to insert each pair
of field delimiters { } and Alt+F9 to toggle off the field codes.

You will need to unlink the footer in the second section from that in the
first section of the document.

This will put the correct number on the page, but it will not be picked up
by the TOC.
