Skips Back to Older Version of Word- How Do I Fix?

I hit some key and the Word version I am using jumped back to a previous version. This older version has no column breaks, you can only insert a page or section break. How do I get back to the upgraded version?

I t says version 2001 but i have installed Office Mac for OSX standard edition. This is an upgrade.

Random guess--if there is an entry for "5.1 Menus" under the View menu,
uncheck it.

Otherwise, your question doesn't make any sense. Office 2001 runs in OS
9/Classic, while Office X, 2004, and 2008 run in OS X. It should be
pretty hard for you to mistake an OS 9 version for an OS X version.
*Where* does it say version 2001?

What version does it say on the About dialog under the Word menu?

Thanks for the post. However:
• There is not "5.1 Menus" under view... or preferences etc.
* IN about this word, it says Microsoft Word X for Mac Service Release 1
Copyright 1983-2001

To solve this last time, I uninstalled Word, reinstalled it and each of the 6 service packs... there has got to be a better way

Great, you are using Office X, aka version 10. Key fact in all
troubleshooting.

But I'm still not understanding what you mean by "skips back to an older
version of Word." The only detail you have given is that some menu
commands are not there. So try the standard remedies for missing menu
commands:

If you go to Tools | Customize Toolbars/Menus, select the Menu Bar, and
click Reset, it should set all your main menus and built-in toolbars
back to the default.

If you have customized your menus or toolbars, you may want to explore
the Tools | Customize, Commands dialog, and drag the commands you are
missing back to the toolbars/menus yourself, rather than wipe out your
customizations by clicking Reset.

If that doesn't work, try to depict the problem a little better. There
are several "better ways" than remove and reinstall, but it's hard to
recommend one above another without having a sense of the problem.
