Slanting Table Headings

K

Keith Davis

Anyone know if it's possible to slant the top row of a
table for headings? I know that you can use the
vertically aligned text but would like to be able to slant
the headings so that longer words look a little nicer.
Thanks,
Keith

Keith, is it possible to do your document (table) in Excel? If so, there is a facility for slanting the headings - Format | Cells | Alignment tab. (It is not possible to then copy it across to Word, as the horizontal alignment will prevail).

Even in Excel, though, the heading cells themselves are not diagonal, just
the text, so you need a wider column to accommodate the diagonal heading
than you would need for a vertical one.

Type only your heading text in Excel, use
Format>Cell>Alignment to slant those words in their cells,
then select the range holding your headings, hold down
SHIFT and choose EDIT>COPY PICTURE. You can then paste
that picture in the top row of your Word table (merge the
cells across first), and then line up the columns of the
word table underneath.

You could also put the headings into text boxes and rotate those to the angle you want

Text boxes cannot be rotated to any angle. Text in text boxes can be rotated
only 90 degrees right or left.
