Slide design templates loads very slowly

Hi,

I am using Powerpoint 2003 at the moment. For some unknown reason,
whenever I access the Slide Design Templates panel, it takes an
extremely long time to load. The rest of the computer including
Powerpoint is functional, but the CPU usage is at 100%. The thumbnails
for the template designs will take maybe ten seconds to load each one
and I can't really select any of it. Do you know of a solution to fix
this, other than a reinstall?

I suspect this is related, but we still don't have a definitive cause or
resolution.

I suppose it could also be an issue of having overloaded your folder with
templates. Or, more likely, you need to do some basic computer maintenance
like delete *.tmp files, empty your TEMP and Temporary Internet Files
folders, and run a defrag.

I've only added one or two templates to Powerpoint beyond the default
install without the additional templates. I guess the problem started
after I added one new template and used that template in some
presentation. I don't think it has to do with temp files interfering
with it, and fragmentation is not a problem at the moment. I guess I
may have to live with it. Thanks.

Do you know which template it is? If so, does removing it resolve the issue?

I would still tend to lean toward the problem described in
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00779.htm So I'd check for add-ins and utilities,
try opening PPT without opening Outlook, etc.

And, even if you doubt it's temp files interfering, it probably wouldn't
hurt to delete them anyway and see if it makes a difference.
